Understanding Your Facebook Data (Part 2)

Annnnnddddd I’m back with part two of understanding how to interpret your Facebook insights. I hope you’ve had time to digest and understand the tutorial from part one. 


Today, I’m going to walk you through another pivotal piece in growing your audience and maximizing your reach on Facebook. Your post insights will show you the various times of the day where your content will perform the best. So whether you’re using Buffer, Hootsuite, or even Facebook’s built-in scheduling tool, taking control of this data will ensure that your content reaches your audience when they’re online!


But before I go further, I would like to point something out first...


It’s important to harness our data to make the best informed decisions. With this, it’s important to understand which metrics are really important to making those decisions. You may find that some metrics aren't necessary to measure depending on your goals. Here are the steps you need to take to know how to access this data and take action on it. 

 

1. Navigate to your Facebook Business/Group page and click insights at the top

 

 

2. Click posts on the left navigation menu

4. At the top, you’ll see “When Your Fans Are Online” and “Post Types”

This data provides us with times of the day that our audience is active. This entire section will help us make sure that we're taking that extra step in knowing the habits and behaviors of our audience. This allows us to schedule and publish content when your audience is online.

 

 

5. Notice the note “Data shown for a recent 1-week period. Times of day are shown in your computer’s local timezone.”

Here's what you shouldn't do: use the data that you currently see and base your content planning off of this data for the rest of your life. Here's what you SHOULD do: check this data set every week during your content planning process and see how your numbers have changed. You can find yourself scheduling or posting content at 1 PM and 5PM one week and find out the next week that your audience has shifted to being online later in the evening or earlier in the day. Be mindful with this and check regularly!

6. Below are 7 boxes for the days of the week and a big chart that displays your overall reach for a one week period.

I love this part...here, you can scroll over the boxes and see what times of the day your content can be seen. The numbers on top of the boxes represent the number of views per hour. The time also reflects your current timezone.

Every day has its own metrics. Look at the peaks and schedule accordingly. For me, Mondays at 10 AM, noon, 7 PM, and 10 PM are the best times for me to post. With that being said, make sure you post more than just once so that your content has a longer shelf-life and that your audience is viewing it at all times of the day.

 

8. At the bottom you’ll see “All Posts Published”

This is all of your previously published content and their performance. It's broken down into reach, post clicks, reactions, comments & shares (engagement).

8. Reach: Organic/Paid

It's how many people have seen your content. It's broken down into two categories: paid and organic. Organic reach is the number of times your content is seen through unpaid distribution. This relates to the audience that is currently following you, your followers and the followers of those who share it. Paid reach is the number of users who see your content through a paid medium such as an ad or a boosted post. This section answers the "how" and "why" in your content performance.

9. Post Clicks

This data set represents the number of times users click on your post or ad.

10. Reactions, Comments & Shares

This refers to your post engagements. Check out part one for more info on this!
